NATHALIE BERGER
director & documentary cinematographer
ABOUT
I am a Swiss documentary film director and cinematographer, based in Geneva and having grown up moving between the Philippines, Indonesia, Brazil, and Switzerland.
I hold a Master’s degree in Documentary Film Directing (2022) from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Photography in 2014. My first feature documentary, CALL ME INTERN (2019) was awarded best New Zealand Documentary Film in 2019. My second feature, CHAGRIN VALLEY (2023) received the Jury Prize at Visions du Réel 2023 and won the 2024 Swiss Film Awards.
My documentary film work is rooted in observational filmmaking, with a focus on capturing intimate and spontaneous moments. My work for others can either be solo or in collaboration with a larger team. In both cases, I approach my film projects with a sense of empathy and curiosity. My photography is only analog.
I am fluent in English, French, Swiss German, German, and Portuguese.
